“Mountains or lake?” How often has this old issue been discussed? Achensee Lake in Austria made its decision long ago – for itself.
The largest and most beautiful mountain lake in Tyrol rests majestically 940 metres above sea level between the Rofan and Karwendel Mountains. And it offers both: emerald green water and impressive peaks. And, there is also the type of air that people want to breathe in deeply.
You’ll notice quickly that Achensee Lake wakes people up! Of course, you can laze the time away on the banks of the lake or read a good book, but at some point you’ll get itchy feet. You’ll want to hike in the mountains, or glide across the lake in a sail boat, or go golfing beneath jagged peaks or float down from the peaks in a paraglider. Or take off on a mountain bike. By the way, lazing around is much nicer afterwards.
Some people love Achensee Lake because it opens their eyes to how priceless time and tranquillity are, and how grand nature is. As the gateway to the Karwendel Mountains, the lake opens up to the largest nature reserve in Austria with its ancient mountain forests, Alpine meadows and ravines. Rare animals and plants such as the stone eagle, wood grouse and mountain goats make their homes here. You can only see them at your leisure. You can find that at Achensee Lake.
