Ernst-Moritz-Arndt Museum Garz
Garz, which is in the south of the island, is the oldest and for three centuries also the only city on Rügen. Here, you can find the oldest Rügen local history museum.
Chalk Museum Gummanz, Chalk open air museum, Chalk and nature trail
Visible from afar, the chalk quarries on Rügen’s peninsula Jasmund are a witness to more than 200 years of mining and usage of the “white gold”. The open air museum provides information about geology, historical chalk mining, and processing the chalk.
An informative nature trail runs for approximately 1.5 km to the "Kleinen Königsstuhl", which affords a distant view of Jasmund, the Bodden, and other landscape of Rügen.
Mönchguter Museums
During a visit to the Mönchguter museums, you will experience time travel to Rügen's past and learn about the lives and traditions of the fishermen and farmers in the olden days. The local history museum, Museumhof, Rookhus, Museum Ship “Luise”, or the carefully restored Pfarrwitwenhaus (Pastor’s widow’s house) permit a look at “old Rügen”.
Sellin Amber Museum
At the foot of the splendid Wilhelmstrasse in Sellin, the only amber museum on Rügen invites you to visit. In the island's smallest museum, you can walk back 70 million years to the time when the “golden tears of the Baltic Sea" - amber – came into being.
Princely Jagdschloss Granitz
In 1837, Prince Wilhelm Malte I zu Putbus had his hunting castle built on Tempelberg in the middle of Granitz with its enormous central tower (35 m high) according to plans from Friedrich Schinkels. The cast iron spiral staircase on the inside of the tower is still a special attraction today. It leads upwards with more than 155 stairs. From the top, visitors are treated to a breathtaking view of the entire island.
Submarine Museum in the Sassnitz Town Port
H. M. Submarine "OTUS" is an English submarine of the Oberon class with a length of 90.7 metres. The museum gives you insight into the technology, work, and life onboard a submarine.
Fälscher Museum Binz
The Galerie Jahreszeiten (Season Gallery) is not far from the Binz beach promenade. In a permanent exhibition, you can view more than seventy replicas of major works of master artists - from van Gogh, Renoir, and Monet.
KdF Museum Prora
At one of the most beautiful beaches on Rügen – Prora – Hitler had the holiday facility “Kraft durch Freude” (strength through joy) built before the Second World War with 10,000 rooms. Delusions of grandeur in stone: the 5-story building stretches out for 4.5 km. It is only possible to appreciate the enormous dimensions of the “colossus of Prora” from the air. In the facility, which is under monumental protection today, you can find the Prora Museum where the 18 metre model of the facility is being exhibited.
Hiddensee Local History Museum
"Rügen’s little sister” off the northwest coast of the island has maintained the charm of the early 20th century to this day, which was the time when Hiddensee advanced to become the "artists’ colony". Since then, celebrities and artists of all genres have succumbed to the charm of Hiddensee including Franz Kafka, Sigmund Freud, Albert Einstein, Billy Wilder and Bert Brecht.
In Kloster, in the old sea rescue station that was established in 1888, the local history museum tells of the past and present lives of the local people, of the tradition, flora, fauna, and the Viking treasure.
Sassnitz Fishing and Port Museum
The museum is located in the town port right at the wharf. It shows the fishing, port, and town history over the last 100 years.
Historical Printing Workshop at Kap Arkona
Due to the Gutenberg anniversary in the year 2000 and in order to preserve book printing technology for future generations, the northernmost printing office in Germany was established in Kap Arkona in 1999 as a “historical printing workshop”.
