Is Arenas means “the sands” – but there is more to it than that. Not that we were reluctant to mention our over four kilometres of beach – between us, it is marvellous.
Neither would we keep the unspoilt nature from you with its pines, eucalyptus trees, and myrtle bushes. But the Sinis peninsula, about 20km from the provincial capital Oristano, offers even more attractions: rugged coastlines, lagoons, wooded mountains, and ancient sites.
Oristano is the capital of the smallest Sardinian province – which means that things don’t get too glamorous or hectic around here. Between beautiful palazzi and the towers of the 11th century city walls, Oristano’s old town is perfect for strolling, shopping, or drinking espresso. In the evening, meet up on the Piazza Eleonora – at the monument to Sardinian national heroine Eleonora d’Arborea, who passed laws protecting human rights as far back as 1392.
And of course, in Oristano you have to try a “Vernaccia di Oristano”, one of the great wines of Sardinia that attunes your senses to the charms of this island...
Nature with you on holiday
When you relax, it is good for the pine trees too. Holidays in harmony with nature is the motto of Is Arenas. After an extended discussion of the concept, the Is Arenas resort is coming into existence in accordance with environmental regulations to preserve the beauty and the character of the region and share it with our visitors.
Irrigation and fire protection enhance the protection of nature. The large pine grove was planted in the 1950s to halt the formation of dunes. A real oasis has sprung up – with juniper bushes and eucalyptus trees, myrtle bushes and savory. In spring the mimosas gently bloom. Jays and other birds love the forest.
As none of the buildings are higher than the treetops, the hotel blends
harmoniously with the landscape. Lawns and existing pathways are cared for and used as walking and hiking trails: The network of pathways inside the pine grove is 44 kilometres long.
Cars stay in the car park – the beauties of Is Arenas can be experienced more intensely by bike, by golf cart, or on foot. Even the beach club nestles in the dunes as if it were part of the landscape. This is how the best holiday acquaintances spring up.
