In the 19th century, the seaside resort culture became established on the German Baltic Sea coast. Hence, the Mecklenburg Baltic Sea coast with its fine sandy beaches became that which it is today: an enormous public swimming area and an endless promenade. Sun worshipers and swimming fans, surfers and romantics, skippers and spa guests from all over the world liven up the location, which is still quite small.
Summer visitors appreciate the secluded villages for the quiet as well as the many cycling and hiking trails, among other things. And also due to the forests such as, for example, the Kühlng, which got its name from Kühlungsborn. The blend of salty, humid sea air and the tangy forest climate is uniquely soothing - not only in midsummer.
Rostock and Wismar contribute a grandiose history, hanseatic flair and heaps of port and fishing romanticism. Each year in August, more than one million guests marvel at the Hanse Sail in Rostock, the largest windjammer in the world.
