Comfortable lounge chairs, fireplace, bar and library make for a natural meeting place – understated quality, in true Walser tradition. Comfortable and inviting, a harmonious setting for a perfect holiday. The impressive comeback of a hotel legend that offers an attractive holiday spot year-round.
The Ifen Hotel achieved its fame in the 1930s. Prominent nobility and industrial leaders were attracted to the striking rotunda perched on a rock ledge. During the times of National Socialism, the building was misused as a prison for notable persons – such as the French ambassador André Francois-Poncet. After liberation, French officers used the building, including General Charles de Gaulle.
The Ifen Hotel also made it as a movie star: German director Heinz Rühmann loved it as the backdrop for the romance movie “Der Engel mit dem Saitenspiel”, and it played a lead part in “Wochenend im Walsertal”. In the 1950s and 1960s, personalities such as Theodor W. Adorno, Anneliese Rothenberger or Bruno Kreisky enjoyed the hospitality of the hotel, which soon gained notoriety as the “secret landmark of Kleinwalsertal”.
Modern architecture now complements the resurrected rotunda; the interior decoration features furniture, lamps and accessories specially designed by Italian architect and designer Lorenzo Bellini. Warm colours and materials from nature create a cosy atmosphere. Panoramic windows ensure a seamless transition to the mountain world. From the large, inviting terrace, splendid views meet the eye.
