The area offers a diverse network of hiking trails that cover over 150 kilometres and is ideal for leisurely walks, enjoyable mountain hikes and challenging summit tours, for example up the Hohen Ifen. Hiker's hearts will be fit to burst! The mountains around the Ifen Hotel rise up to an optimal altitude, ranging from just under 1,000 metres above sea level to 2,536 m. You can explore them on your own or join one of the guided and themed mountain hikes. Enjoy wonderful views, experience nature, take a break from everyday life and breathe in the fresh mountain air – followed by a well-deserved stop at a rustic mountain hut. Cycling holidays & mountain biking at the Ifen Hotel
Kleinwalsertal is the perfect destination for cycling and mountain biking holidays. You can choose from leisurely bike rides, challenging mountain bike tours and guided tours with experienced guides – either way, impressive panoramic alpine views are always in sight. If you would like to leave your bike at home or want to try an e-bike, renting mountain bikes and e-bikes is easy. The many mountain huts in the Kleinwalser mountains also have bike service stations that you can use during a well-deserved break.

Bergschule Kleinwalsertal mountain school
Bergschule Kleinwalsertal is a mountain school and a reliable partner to have by your side while exploring the Kleinwalsertal mountains. The alpine experts offer various workshops and guided tours from May to October. Here is a brief overview:

Trail running in Kleinwalsertal
Trail running in the Walser mountains is a very special running experience. The sport combines the feelings of happiness awakened by running with wonderful moments surrounded by nature. Whether you are a beginner or expert, you can face your own personal challenges and conquer the mountains at three different altitude levels ranging from 1,100 to 2,500 metres above sea level. The marked trail running routes of various difficulty levels will show you a whole new side of the Kleinwalsertal valley and ensure moments of pure alpine happiness!
Climbing in Kleinwalsertal
The Ifen Hotel is also ideal for climbers – the varied mountains of the Kleinwalsertal have something for people of all ability levels. Before going off on a climbing tour, you can learn the right way to tackle the rocks alongside experienced mountain guides at the Bergschule Kleinwalsertal mountain school's natural climbing park.
Afterwards, there are three varied via ferratas where you can put your new knowledge to the test: The Walsersteig route is good for beginners and families who are just starting out. For more experienced climbers, we recommend the Mindelheimer or the 2-country via ferrata. But regardless of which trail or climbing adventure you choose, you are sure to be rewarded with impressive mountain views. That's what makes climbing in Vorarlberg so much fun.
Summer lifts and cable cars
Whether you want to enjoy a leisurely hike with your whole family or a challenging mountain bike tour, you can ride up the mountain in comfort on the summer lifts and cable cars. From the beginning of May until the beginning of November, the summer lifts and cable cars are included in the price of your stay at the Ifen Hotel. The Mountain Lifts Included ticket entitles you to ride the Walser bus and any of the 7 lifts and cable cars in the Kleinwalsertal/Oberstdorf region – as often as you want!

There are several destinations that are well-worth a visit near our Ifen Hotel in Kleinwalsertal. For example, the alpine herb garden at Hörnlepass, the unique natural wonder of the Breitachklamm gorge or the ski jump in Oberstdorf. Between June and September, you can learn more about the production of Walser mountain cheese on an excursion to one of the alpine dairies. If the weather is presenting a challenge, we can recommend a trip to the ski museum.
