Emperors and Archdukes at Achensee
The Emperor Maximilian declared Pertisau, at an elevation of 940 metres, to be one of his favourite hunting grounds, and his former residence on the banks of the lake now hosts the Travel Charme Fürstenhaus – a 4-star Superior Hotel in Tyrol. The village is honouring its centuries of history as a holiday resort with further innovations, such as the oldest and probably best situated golf course in Austria.
Archduke Sigismund ‘der Münzreiche’ built the ‘Fischerhaus’ in 1446 to facilitate hunting and fishing in Pertisau, and the Fischergut still survives as one of the oldest farmhouses in the village, right opposite the Fürstenhaus. In the summer months, it hosts concerts by the Bundesmusikkapelle Eben brass band.
Mountain and lake activities
The main landing stage of the Achensee shipping company is also located in Pertisau. The steamships have been connecting Achenkirch, Maurach and Pertisau since 1887.
There is a plenitude of activities to enjoy on land: hiking, rambling, mountain-biking, Nordic walking and paragliding, and just as much to enjoy on the water. Steady breezes make the Achensee a delight for sailing, surfing and kite-surfing.
