Water sports on Lake Achensee

Lake Achensee is a real water-sports paradise, with plenty of activities to enjoy both in and on the crystal-clear water! Against a stunning mountainous backdrop, Tyrol’s longest lake boasts the perfect water and wind conditions for a wide range of water sports. Lake Achensee is popular among surfers, sailors and kite-surfers for its light southerly winds in the morning and powerful northerly winds in the afternoon, which you’ll need plenty of strength, coordination and savvy to handle. But even if you’re no pro on the water, your holiday by Lake Achensee is the perfect opportunity to learn the basics under the guidance of experts and hire professional equipment at one of the excellent sailing, surfing and kite schools.

Climbing

At Tyrol’s Achensee region is a dream destination for climbers! With 250 climbing routes, 8 via ferrata routes and a forest high-ropes course, this region is a real climber’s paradise. These varied routes will take you through two different mountain ranges at once: the Rofan and the Karwendel mountains.

There are some particularly scenic climbing routes to explore – for example, the five-summit via ferrata route, which takes you over central peaks of the Rofan mountains. The routes are very flexible; experienced climbers can conquer the whole distance, while beginners are free to tackle individual sections. The Karwendel mountains are home to the Lamsenjoch Alpine climbing area, while the forest high-ropes course in Achenkirch promises climbing fun for all ages.

Summer cable cars

Whether you’d prefer an Alpine hike, a climbing route or a bike tour: from the start of May until the end of October, you can use the summer cable cars to comfortably transport you up into the mountains. And then it’s off to enjoy some mountain fun...

The Karwendel cable car takes you up to the Zwölferkopf, high over Pertisau. Up at 1,480 m above sea level, a stunning view of the lake and mountain landscape awaits you and the next Alpine pasture is never far away. On the opposite side, the Rofanseilbahn cable car takes you from Maurach to the perfect starting point for countless hiking adventures and stunning mountain tours at up to 2,299 m above sea level. And near the Rofanseilbahn cable-car station, adventurous guests will find another special holiday experience: soar like an eagle on the Airrofan skyglider, which takes you zooming down 200 metres at a rapid 80 km/h. This sweeping spectacle is also great fun to watch.

The clear waters of Lake Achensee are also the perfect quality for diving: on the eastern shore of the lake, you’ll find a designated diving zone, where you can gain an insight into the local fish and plant species, and discover some striking gullies and rock faces. You can get a diving permit and find out more about diving in Lake Achensee at the ‘Camping Schwarzenau’ camp site or at the Maritime Administration office.

Cycling & mountain-biking

The Achensee region also has plenty to offer for cyclists and mountain-biking fans. The Achensee region is one of the top areas for mountain-biking; it is an official ‘Tyrol Mountain Bike Specialist’ region and forms part of the Bike Trail Tyrol. If you go mountain-biking in the Karwendel and Rofan mountains, you’ll find 250 km of officially approved cycling and mountain-biking routes at all levels of difficulty. Whether you’d prefer a leisurely bike ride along the shore of the lake or a challenging tour high up in the mountains, here in the Achensee region, you’re sure to find the perfect route for you.

Our house has e-bikes available in the summer months, which you can reserve from 18:00 for the following day for € 39.00 per day. You are welcome to store your private bikes in our ski and golf room. You can reach it via the hotel entrance in the underground car park.

Paragliding at Lake Achensee

The wind conditions at Lake Achensee are popular and valued among not only water-sports fans but also paragliders. The region is home to one of the best and most beautiful flying areas in Austria, surrounded by the Rofan and Karwendel mountains. Ideal temperatures combined with an impressive mountain and lake landscape – which is also well worth seeing from above. One particularly popular option is paragliding from the Zwölferkopf, which is easy to reach via the Karwendel cable car. Lake Achensee is not only an El Dorado for experienced paragliders – you can also get your first taste of flying and that unique sense of freedom on tandem flights with trained and experienced pilots. Another impressive spectacle is the ‘Achensee Xtreme – Hike & Fly’ event in May, whose participants first run up the Zwölferkopf and then fly down into the valley.

Boat rides & fishing at Lake Achensee

If you’d prefer a more leisurely pace, you can also explore the lake quite comfortably on smaller boats. From May to October, you can hire rowing boats, pedalos or electric boats from the boat-hire shop right next to the Fürstenhaus and go sailing across the lake. Fishing fans can also hire a rowing boat for fishing and pursue their hobby either from the boat or from the lakeshore. However, fishing is only allowed with a valid fishing permit. We’d be happy to advise you on this personally.

Golf holiday at Lake Achensee

A holiday at Fürstenhaus Am Achensee is also the perfect opportunity to play some golf in Tyrol, with two golf courses to choose from in a stunning setting: the 18-hole golf course in Pertisau, located just a stone’s throw from the hotel, and the 9-hole course in Achenkirch. At these locations, hotel guests enjoy a 20% discount on the green fee and get to experience two of the most beautiful golf courses in the Alps.

At the 18-hole Leading Course in Pertisau, you’ll find everything an avid golfer could wish for: a gently sloping but playfully challenging course at an altitude of approx. 1,000 m with a magnificent view of the lake and mountains, a driving range that can be played on both sides, a practice area with chipping greens, a putting green and sheltered teeing grounds. And if you’d also like to use your holiday at Lake Achensee as an opportunity to improve your skills on the green, our golf pro Tom Fankhauser is here to provide advice and guidance to golfers of all abilities – making the Fürstenhaus your very own golf hotel by Lake Achensee!
