Against food waste: Travel Charme hotels cooperate with "Too Good To Go" app

Munich, November 22, 2023 - Following the successful cooperation between the Strandidyll Heringsdorf and the Fürstenhaus am Achensee with the provider "Too Good To Go", the leading marketplace for surplus food, six more Travel Charme hotels will be joining the collaboration from December 1, 2023. The aim is to tackle food waste and thus contribute to greater sustainability.

The Strandidyll Heringsdorf and the Fürstenhaus am Achensee started passing along the food via the "Too Good To Go" app back in the summer - with great success. The results after three months are impressive: A total of 890 saved food bags and thus a total of around 2.23 tons of CO2 avoided. From December 1, 2023, the Ostseehotel Kühlungsborn, the Kurhaus Binz, the Bergresort Werfenweng, the Badeschloss in Bad Gastein, the Strandhotel Bansin and the Gothisches Haus in Wernigerode will also be taking part in the campaign. The social impact company "Too Good To Go" connects users with partner businesses to save food from going to waste. Restaurants, supermarkets and hotels can offer unsold or surplus products at a discounted price in the app. Customers order and pay digitally and collect their goods directly from the respective provider on site.

Marcus Scharon, Hotel Director of the Strandidyll Heringsdorf, explains the origin of the idea for the commitment: "An essential part of our "NextGen Advisory Circle" training program is to engage in an exchange with our employees on how we can become more ecological. When it came to sustainable consumption, it was important to us to save food from going to waste. With the "Too Good To Go" initiative, which has been successfully combating food waste for years, we were able to put our plans directly into practice and allow people in our region to benefit from them. That convinced us completely."

The focus of Hirmer Hospitality's innovative "NextGen Advisory Circle" training programme is on the promotion and integration of young talent in the areas of digitalization, sustainability and corporate change and opens opportunities for trainees to have a greater say and shape the company.
