Harzer tourism federation awards "Gaststuben Gothisches Haus" with this regional label.

Wernigerode, June 1, 2023 | On May 31, 2023, the “Gaststuben Gothisches Haus” was awarded with the Harz quality seal, "Typisch Harz". Since 2011, the Harz Tourism Association has been the bearer of this regional brand, which has now been awarded to the restaurant of the 4-star, superior hotel, “Gothisches Haus”, in Wernigerode for the quality of its cuisine.

The team around Ronny Kallmeyer, project manager gastronomy, had sent in an application for the category “gastronomy”. They convinced the judging panel of their concept of co-operation with regional vendors, the superior in-house production, and the careful purchase of supra-regional products, in addition to the culinary over all experience.

Oven-fresh rye spelt bread, burnt Harzkäsecreme (cheese cream), deer cheeks, pickled salmon trout, grilled lamb shoulder, burger from the region, a "flowerpot" made from raspberries, white chocolate, and blood orange are the dishes on the menu at Gaststuben Gothisches Haus make the Harz visually and tastefully tangible, according to their application. "It is time to rediscover not only the dish in detail, but the taste, as well as to create our own new dishes, all with the products from Harz," as stated further. Both the vision and the list of the restaurant’s well-known, regional suppliers have convinced the judges in the Harz Tourism Association.

The regional brand "Typisch Harz" is divided into nine product groups with currently more than 700 products from over 66 producers in the Harz Tourism Association area bear this seal of quality. Consumers can use this label to recognize the special quality of products from the region. More than 15 partners are currently responsible for supplying the Gothisches Haus restaurant, including a cheese farm, a trout farm, distilleries, bakeries, breweries, and others. Out of the own production originate -amongst others, items from the "Wernigeröder Gärtens", butter for a variety of breads, as well as spruce tips for the dessert, "Waldboden". Products that are sourced from other regions are also subject to strict specifications in terms of organic quality, regionality, seasonality and sustainability.

In order to be allowed to adorn themselves with the seal of quality, applicants go through a multistage process. After the application is received by the Harz Tourism Association, association representatives check quality. In the case of the Gaststuben Gothisches Haus, this was done during a rehearsal dinner, where Project Manager Gastronomy, Ronny Kallmeyer, and Hotel Director, Antje Märker, presented their philosophy. The expert commission of 10 judges consisted of the agrarian marketing societies of Saxony-Anhalt, Lower Saxony, various tourist operators, as well as producers and representatives of the Hartz Tourism board. If approved, the applicant receives a branded use contract and a "Typisch Harz" certificate. The certification must be newly applied for every three years.
