About gingerbread and half-timbered houses: The Wernigerode Christmas market at the Gothisches Haus Wernigerode
Munich, November 23, 2023 - From November 24 to December 22, 2023, Wernigerode will be particularly atmospheric: stalls, a living Advent calendar and a stage will be set up in the heart of the medieval old town, directly in front of the Hotel Gothisches Haus. Right at Christmas season and the end of the year, festive overnight packages can also be booked at the four-star superior hotel.
Christmas market against a backdrop of half-timbered houses
Alongside the historic town hall and the medieval alleyways and corners, the Gothisches Haus in Wernigerode, which has been run as a Travel Charme Hotel for 20 years, is one of the town's most beautiful contemporary witnesses with its centuries-old, half-timbered architecture. During the Advent season, the main square shines in a special light: the facades are transformed into a glittering backdrop for Christmas in Wernigerode. Directly in front of the four-star accommodation, the Christmas market offers traditional craftsmanship, culinary specialties from the region and mulled wine, live music and attractions for children. More than 60 traders and restaurateurs will take part in the annual magic in 2023. Antje Maerker, Director of the Gothisches Haus Wernigerode: "My team and I are looking forward to this special time of the year and to all the guests who want to share it with us."
From the Feuerzangenbowle (red wine punch) in the smithy courtyard to the animal world at the church
The Wernigerode Christmas market presents itself to visitors in many different ways: the Krell smithy, the oldest working smithy in Germany, not only opens the doors to its historic workshop, but also to the courtyard, where fairytale films are shown and fire-tongs-punch is served on Fridays. Harz dishes are served in the charcoal burner's hut and other hot drinks in Mellie's mill. Traditionally, the Oberpfarrkirchhof with the Sylvestrikirche is transformed into a church of lights. Three-dimensional light figures of Harz wildlife and tree illuminations set the scene for the church and Nicolaiplatz. A specially made, life-size lynx and the small Wernigerode gingerbread forest celebrate their premiere.
After the Advent market is before the winter market
Christmas-decorated Advent huts in the historic town hall courtyard, the "Living Advent Calendar", whose 24 doors have been filled with offers for families by partners, associations and businesses, the winter market at the flower clock from 23 December to 7 January 2024 as well as a children's carousel and the Wernigerode Nativity Scene Trail, which leads to numerous individual nativity scenes in and around the town center, are further highlights of the Advent season in Wernigerode.
Christmas and New Year's Eve arrangements in the Gothic House
If you want to spend the last week of the year in a contemplative and relaxed way rather than just a few hours of Christmas magic, you can make yourself comfortable in the Gothisches Haus Wernigerode with its wellness area and sauna landscape as part of the two seasonal festive and holiday packages: The "Christmas Lights & New Year's Eve Sparkle" package (23 to 26.12.2023) includes breakfast, festive dinners, coffee snacks, a classic Feuerzangenbowle (red wine punch) and a Christmas concert as well as a surprise gift. The "New Year's Eve Sparkle" package (from 29/30.12.2023 to 1/2.01.2024) includes breakfast, dinner, coffee snacks, an evening music program on the 30th and a culinary and musical New Year's Eve arrangement on the 31st, including a five-course menu and a surprise gift. Both offers can be booked starting from €393 per room/per night.
